John Mix returned from studying in Austria in 1998 convinced the monofin would become huge in aquatic sports. But it wasn’t until 1993 - after meeting up to celebrate his friend Pablo Morales’ Olympic gold medal won in the Barcelona pool the year before - that the pair set up FINIS with John’s brother Jerry.
The first FINIS monofin was developed and marketed, and a few years later Mix and Morales had developed a centre-mount snorkel designed for the competitive swim market made of ABS sprinkler tubes and a unique moulded head bracket.
