The Way Funky Company is an Australian swimwear company with its design house located in Collingwood, Melbourne. Our emphasis is on product quality and originality of design. Our staff spend hours globally sourcing the highest quality inputs to meet our strict manufacturing standards. After years of work, Way Funky is now established with one of the world’s leading swimwear factories, uses specific blends of Italian fabrics in all its products and designs its own trimmings to meet the demands of our customers.
In October 2002 the first ever pair of Funky Trunks were designed, stitched together and then launched unceremoniously at a suburban Melbourne pool to a chorus of laughter and cheers possibly tinged with a hint of sarcasm. It was hardly the springboard for a budding swimwear label but as the jokes died, the Australian male inclined to swim laps began to question the appeal of exercising in tight briefs. It was a question that reverberated around the swimming pools of Australia. Funky Trunks were adopted by state, national, Olympic swimmers and even by our dads to put comfort and style back into swimming. Eight years on, Funky Trunks has come to symbolise the original reinvention of the men’s swimwear market. Funky Trunks paves the way for the continued advancement of men’s swimwear design with innovative styling and a continuous, fresh supply of vibrant colours and prints. Funky Trunks are the reason why original is best.
Funkita was first released in 2004 as demand for the women’s ‘Funky Trunk’ grew. An emphasis on creating sculpted, chlorine resistant swimwear in vibrant prints set Funkita apart in the active swimwear market. Today, Funkita has evolved from a Funky Trunks offshoot to be the most expansive line in the company stable. Funkita is derived from the joining of Funkys and chiquita – a colloquial Spanish word for girlfriend or female friend. The words give Funkita the identity of youthfulness and freedom that we aim to express in the design of the Funkita products.
We are guided by the basic principles of promoting individuality in social cohesion. We limit the ‘push’ of our brands onto you but rather focus on the ‘pull’ of letting you discover us. We let you decide if Funky Trunks and Funkita are going to meet your needs. Of course we’ll promote our brands, we’ll try and get you to notice us but we won’t tell you more than what we are. This means we won’t tell you what type of person you need to be to wear our product or how you’re going to look wearing it. We make Funky Trunks and Funkita products mixed with the flair, vibrancy and originality we hope you’ll like. It is then up to you to decide if our swimwear speaks life the way you do.
